My Conversion
I am Joseph Tan, a Malaysian. I was born a Taoist. Taoism was the religion of my forefathers. My father died when I was ten months old. I became a Catholic in 1967. I only started active serving in the Catholic church after attending the first Life in the Spirit seminar in 1988.
Since then I was actively involved in the activities of the Catholic church.
My testimony is as follows:-
On 17th February 2011, I suffered a heart condition known as severed MR & persistent AF. I was immediately admitted into the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) of a private hospital. In the afternoon my heart rate went into a drastic dropped drop to a danger level where could result in a severe brain damage that could lead to a cardiac failure or a cardiac arrest. A Catholic doctor diagnosed my condition and said that I literally came back from the “dead”. And a senior Government nurse said I am a walking “time bomb”. I was given the Sacrament of the anointing of the sick. My first ever anointing as a Catholic.
I managed to travel despite of my unstable heart condition. Have travelled most countries since 2011.

May – Shanghai, China
September – Krakow, Poland (3 weeks pilgrimage)
October – Sydney, Australia

God was good to me and has always given me a second lease of life. I stayed in this state of “good” health for the last five years. I was able to serve Him faithfully through the following Ministries in two parishes.
Serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Lector, Divine Mercy Apostolate member, volunteer in a soup kitchen, counsellor, a retreat coordinator, Catholic Charismatic Renewal Prise & Worship Leader, sharing of God’s Word, helping in funeral & wake services.
When I looked back at what I have gone through, I know that God was with me & given me a chance to serve Him through my involvement in the various church Ministries.
“I know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him & called for a purpose.”
