How Jesus Changed my Life

How Jesus changed my life

Teresa Kehoe

Hello everyone. My name is Teresa Kehoe. I’m from Ireland and I want to tell you how I came to know Jesus in a personal way. I was baptised and brought up Catholic and as a child was quite prayerful, I remember taking the preparation for my Confirmation very seriously. In my mid-teens, because of my relationship with my own Father, I consciously stopped believing that God loved me. When I was at college, I stopped practising my faith as I felt it would be hypocritical to continue to go to Mass and hold views contrary to Catholic teaching. It was also at this time that I became aware of my own insecurity and lack of confidence, although I outwardly portrayed confidence. I briefly attended a psychoanalyst who told me I was depressed.

After I graduated and began working as a teacher, I realised that, despite my career and social life, I still felt that something was missing. I decided that perhaps that something was prayer. I was friendly with two women in the same choir as me who belonged to a group who prayed together. I just asked one of them if I could come along to their next meeting. As it turned out their meeting was actually an inner healing prayer meeting. They would sing and praise God, something I had no difficulty with, read the Scriptures and then share and pray with each other for whatever difficulties they were dealing with. A few months later an opportunity arose to attend a Catholic Conference on Evangelisation in my former college. At the conference an American priest shared his testimony of how he had come to know Jesus as his personal Saviour. He invited anyone present who had never made the decision to accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour to come forward to be prayed with. I knew that my moment had come. With my friend’s encouragement, I went forward and was prayed with for the release of the Holy Spirit in my life. My life was never the same after that.

One of the first things I did was buy a book entitled, ‘Can you trust the Bible?’ as I was still sceptical about the authenticity of God’s Word. About halfway through this book I stopped reading it and began reading the Bible, which I have continued to do every day. The Word of God came alive for me and I knew Jesus was speaking to me through His Word. Soon after that I experienced a deep desire to go to confession, something I hadn’t done in years, and to receive Jesus in the Eucharist.

I experienced a lot of inner healing and freedom over the following years. From the time I was prayed with, I wanted to tell everyone about my experience and some years later I began working with the Irish School of Evangelisation and subsequently travelled all over the world bringing the Good News to other people.

If you have not yet committed your life to Jesus, I urge you to invite Him into your life right now. God has a wonderful plan for your life and happiness which exceeds even your own greatest expectations. Jesus died for you so you could enter into this inheritance. Accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour this day and let Him transform your life too. God bless you.How I came to know Jesus
